- Close tolerances are reliably achieved
- CFRP design prevents thermal expansion
- Minimum setting effort due to easy fine adjustment
- Low density weight approx. 4-5 times lighter than aluminium design
Single or double edge bridge tools made of steel or aluminium are usually used for boring out large bores from 500 mm. However when there are temperature changes, dimensional variations can arise due to the thermal expansion of the material. A re-adjustment of the tool and an additional control cut in the part are required.
To avoid these production costs, MAPAL has developed bridge tools with CFRP tool bodies. The biggest advantage here is the very low thermal expansion of the CFRP and therefore the dimensional stability and constant accuracy of the tool for fluctuating temperatures. The tools are easy to handle thanks to the reduced weight. And even the handling of the tools themselves is easier than that of conventional tools: There is only one finely adjustable finishing cartridge applied exactly and without play to the bridge.
The CFRP design is suitable for bridge tools with a diameter between 500 – 3,500 mm. The tools can be designed for internal and external machining, with two cutting edges, with a pre-cutting and finely adjustable finishing stage, and with one cutting edge with balancing weight.
