MAPAL expands its Meiningen plant

WEISSKOPF Werkzeuge, a MAPAL subsidiary located in Meiningen/Germany, has expanded its production capacity through the addition of a second manufacturing hall and administrative wing. Numerous guests from the worlds of economics and politics were present at the opening, including the Economics Minister for the State of Thuringia, Wolfgang Tiefensee.

A modern, air-conditioned building, boasting a production area of around 1,100 square metres and a 500 square metre administrative wing, was constructed on a site of over 15,000 square metres. The new building has simultaneously doubled WEISSKOPF’s production capacity and allowed lean and efficient production processes to emerge. Whilst the project was being developed, a modern energy plan was put into place. It conforms to all the latest standards and uses ten percent less energy than is stipulated by the minimum requirements of the German energy saving regulations.
MAPAL has invested 8.5 million euros in constructing the new building and has created 25 new jobs so far. The State of Thuringia supported the construction project by granting subsidies.

WEISSKOPF specialises in manufacturing solid carbide special and miniature tools. Its incorporation into the MAPAL Group in 2012 gave it a more international orientation. Since then the Meiningen-based company has seen a substantial increase in orders. The number of employees has risen from 50 to the present figure of 92. Therefore, two years ago, the decision was taken to build an additional production hall. At that time the plant was already operating at full capacity. An application day took place at WEISSKOPF immediately after the new building was opened. The company is currently seeking to employ additional specialists.
